INTRODUCTION: We are pleased to christen the parenting pages of HYPERTHINK/INK with some great chapter clips selected for our readers by psychologist Lucy Jo Palladino Ph.D. from her recent book Dreamers, Discoverers and Dynamos: How to Help the Child Who is Bright, Bored and Having Problems in School (Ballantine, 1999).

We first crossed paths with Lucy Jo Palladino in the ADD Forum on CompuServe when she contributed to some lively dialogue begun by forumite Dave deBronkart who was musing upon how often our "busy-brained" offspring resembled young Tom Edisons. When Lucy later spun those seeds into an insightful book of her own we were pleased to see the topic further explored and enhanced with so many useful tips. Whether or not you have a different opinion than she about where to draw the line between what we might call "ADD" and what we may call "personality,"  you will find Lucy Jo's book full of  solid common-sense tips for parenting the Edisonian- style child, including how to deal constructively on their behalf with schools, teachers and other professionals.

First issued in 1998 as "The Edison Trait," the book has recently been reissued in paperback by Ballantine as Dreamers, Discoverers and Dynamos.
